Detroit Earns Comeback Victory Over Akron

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - A second-half scoring surge propelled Detroit to a come-from-behind 15-12 triumph past the University of Akron women's lacrosse team in Mid-American Conference action on Wednesday, March 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Titans opened the match scoring the first two goals before the Zips netted three unanswered tallies from sophomore Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.), freshman Jaelyn Clinkscales (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) to assume a 3-2 lead. Earning assists on the goals were Clinkscales, Kiefer and sophomore Chloe Hererra (Houston, Texas).
• Detroit assumed a 4-3 lead with back-to-back tallies, before Akron netted five straight goals to take an 8-4 advantage. Boyd and Silverheels found the back of the net at the 4:21 and 3:05 marks of the first quarter, respectively, before a goal from freshman Izzy Szejk (Camp Hill, Pa.) at the 13:09 mark of the second quarter was sandwiched between a pair of tallies from senior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.) with 14:21 and 7:41 remaining in the half.
• Kiefer and Boyd added their second goals of the afternoon to send the Zips into the intermission holding a 10-5 lead.
• Dennison connected on her third goal of the match at the 13:31 of the third quarter, before Szejk added her second score of the day at the 7:36 mark to extend Akron's advantage to 12-5.
• The Titans responded squaring the contest at 12 before netting a trio of goals to conclude a 15-12 triumph.
• Clinkscales, Hererra and Kiefer each posted a pair of assists on the day for Akron, while earning one assist each was Boyd and Silverheels.
• Detroit posted a 31-24 edge in shots, including 24-17 on goal.
• Kiefer led the Zips with a team-high five shots, while Boyd and Clinkscales added four shots apiece.
• Sophomore GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) made nine saves in net for Akron.
