AKRON, Ohio - The ninth-ranked University of Akron rifle team closed out its regular season campaign earning a 4692-4662 Senior Day triumph over No. 15 North Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.

The Zips' performance in the match equaled Akron's third-best score of the season and sent off the squad's four seniors in Jeanne Haverhill (Coopersburg, Pa.), Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.), Antonio Remedios (Medina, Ohio) and Rebecca Spencer (Avella, Pa.) in style.

Sophomore Kayla Andreoli (Washington, Pa.) set a new career-best mark in smallbore rifle posting a 586 total out of the possible 600 to give Andreoli the top-gun honors for smallbore. The Zips were supported by the performances of Haverhill, fresman Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.) and Openshaw, who all fired identical scores of 580.

The air rifle division was also owned by Akron with top gun going to Kirk, who fired a remarkable 595, equaling her high mark for the season. All in the 590's, Andreoli, sophomore Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) and senior Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.) rounded out the the Zips' efforts in the match.

Up next for Akron will be the NCAA Qualifier at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Columbus, Ohio. The top-eight teams in the nation qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held at the Air Force Academy, March 12-13.
