AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips swimming and diving program registered its first dual meet win of the season, defeating Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo 165-134 at Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium on Friday.

The Zips won the last 6-of-7 events en route to the 31-point triumph, headlined by sweeping the top four positions in the 200-yard breaststroke. Junior Madeline Dyer (2:19.66) stopped the timer first, while senior Andrea Fischer (2:19.75), senior Sara Bozso (2:20.59) and junior Giovanna Cappabianca (2:21.04) claimed second through fourth, respectively.

Prior to the 200 Breast sweep, senior Weronika Gorecka won the 200-yard backstroke by nearly 5-seconds with a 1:59.01 time. After the 200 Breast performances, junior Astrid Halvorsen (5:03.73) and freshman Elle Couture (5:05.08) finished first and second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Abigail Daniel (54.72) and senior Rachel Schiffli (55.90) claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly, while sophomore Kendall Craig (2:05.86) and junior Rachel Sabotin (2:07.19) touched one, two in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Zips ended the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Gorecka, sophomore Rebecca Reid, Daniel and Gatrall flew to a 3:25.17 time.

The Zips opened the meet with a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and the 1000-yard freestyle events. The team of Gatrall, Bozso, Daniel and senior Olivia DeRodes earned the first gold medal of the meet with a 1:42.09 200 MR time. Couture followed by claiming her first dual meet win with a 10:22.45 time in the 1000 Free.

Despite the fast start, Buffalo gained control of the scoreboard and won the next 6-of-7 events which was interrupted by Gatrall's 100-yard backstroke (54.56) victory. Buffalo earned victories in the 200 Free, 100 Back, 200 Fly, 50 Free, 100 Free and 3-meter diving. The Bulls also won the 1-meter diving event.

The Zips are scheduled to be back in action in Columbus, Ohio as Akron battles Ohio State in a dual meet on Friday, Nov. 4 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
