Zips Drop Series Opener to Ohio, Johnson Leads Attack

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron dropped the series opener against Ohio 3-0 as junior Faith Johnson led the Zips' offense with 10 kills while five players followed with five each at James A. Rhodes Arena for Friday's Pink Game.

Johnson scored 11.5 points for Akron, flooring 10 kills and registering one block and a serive ace while hitting for a .240 percentage. Â Sophomore Karleighana Jones led the squad in hitting percentage with a .273 average and generated 5.5 points with five kills and one block. Sophomore Ellen Kinnaird added six points with five kills, two assists and an ace, while senior Teagan Ochaya and sophomore Genevieve Hara contributed five kills each. Freshmen Baylee Vought and Avery Brown recorded 25 of 31 assists with 13 and 12 assists, respectively.

The Bobcats earned the 3-0 decision by scores oof 25-18, 25-22 and 25-13. Friday's match featured 15 tied scores and seven lead changes with 10 ties and five lead changes coming in the second set.

Ohio's offensive leader, Caitlin O'Farrell, posted a team-high 14 kills and hit for a .565 average with one block en route to 14.5 points. Â Olivia Margolies and Caroline Clippard supported the attack with eight kills each, while Elizabeth Hoerlein posted a team-best three blocks.
