- Akron dominated the first set, 25-15. The Zips offense finished with a .409 hitting percentage with Adleta leading the way with three kills. The Zips' defense had three block assists and held the RedHawks to a .230 hitting percentage. Akron ended the first set on a 5-1 run, including back-to-back kills from Weigand.
- The second set was tightly contested as neither team ever led by more than four points. After the Zips took a 22-18 lead, Miami was able to close Akron's lead to 24-22 before an attack error and a kill by senior Jen Durra (Painesville, Ohio) secure the No. 2 set victory.
- Coming out of the break, the RedHawks came out with their foot on the gas and took an early 6-4 lead. However, Akron chipped away at Miami's lead, eventually going ahead, 13-11. The RedHawks tied the game at 25-25, threatening to go to four sets, but back-to-back kills by the Zips capped off set No.3 to win it, 27-25.
