Adleta Tops 1,000 Kills, Zips Fall to Bowling Green in Four

AKRON, Ohio- The Akron Zips volleyball team (6-8,0-2) fell 3-1 (10-25,25-23,25-17,14-25) to Bowling Green in the series finale on Saturday evening at the James A. Rhodes Arena. On the night, senior Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio) hit a career-record of 1,000 kills.

Senior Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) registered a team-high 17 kills while Adleta finished with 12 kills. Ochaya and senior Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill.) led above the net with two block assists each.

Senior Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) led the team with 33 assists and two aces, while senior Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) finished with a game-high 41 digs.

Akron will hit the road next week for a series with Miami (OH) as the Zips travel to Oxford, Ohio on Sept. 30-Oct.1. Akron will face off on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. and will close out the series on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bowling Green started the match off hot limiting the Zips to a -.125 hitting percentage in the opening set. Sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) registered three of the Zips' seven kills. The Falcons led by as many as 13 (20-8) and took the opening set, 25-10.
- The Zips answered back in the No. 2 set finishing with a .211 hitting percentage. Kelly and Ochaya led with four attacks each. With the score tied 11 times, and six lead changes, the Zips closed the No.2 set victory on a kill from Kelly and an attack error on the Falcons.
- Coming out of the break the Zips led by as many as five (13-8). The Falcons used a 6-0 run that tied the game at 16. The two teams exchanged points back and forth until the score was tied 25-25. BG orchestrated back-to-back points to win the set, 27-25.
- Bowling Green limited the Zips to a .057 hitting percentage in the fourth and final set. The Falcons jumped out to a 22-9 lead and would take the final set and match with a 25-14 victory.
