AKRON, Ohio- The Akron women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Wright State (2-1-1) on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Raiders scored all three of their goals in the first half, including one in the early portion of the game in the 13th minute (13:18) by Destiny Johnson. Wright State tallied two more goals over a 5:06 mark, that put the Raiders up for good, 3-0.
"I was very disappointed in the result tonight as it didn't reflect the game at all," Akron head coach Noreen Herlihy commented. "Having a 21-8 shot advantage, six corners to zero showed the dominance we had in the game. We had three clear-cut chances early in the first half, but unfortunately, we didn't capitalize on them. Wright State took its chances and that's the difference tonight, but the effort and commitment never waned for the entire 90 minutes. We will look to keep improving from tonight going into Sunday's game."
Freshman Morgan Pentz (Broadview Heights, Ohio) directed the Zips' attack effort with a team-high four shots, including two on goal, while redshirt freshman Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.) added four strikes for Akron. Johnson led Wright State with a game-high two shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) registered four saves for the Zips.
UP NEXT:
Akron is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 5 as the Zips host Marshall at FirstEnergy Stadium at 1 p.m.
