Kent, Ohio – The Akron Zips baseball team fell 13-3 to rival Kent State as the two rivals opened the four-game weekend #MACtion series at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium on Friday.

The Flashes currently owns a 1-0 edge in the series for the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge, which is tied 5-5 between the two schools.

The Zips scored three runs on five hits as junior Jerry Reinhart (Batavia, N.Y.), junior Bradley Goulet (Cottage Grove, Minn.), senior Connor Regan (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) and junior Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia) posted 1-for-3 performances while junior Dominick Trevino (Edmond, Okla.) registered a 1-for-2 effort. Junior Justin Barr (Pensacola, Fla.) and Regan each recorded RBI and Reinhart, Goulet and Tilly all scored.

The Zips fell behind 3-1 by the top of the fifth inning as Tilly and Trevino distributed back-to-back singles. Junior Tate Wargo (Benld, Ill.) reached base on a throwing error by the Kent State third baseman which plated the first run.

Akron followed with two runs in the sixth inning to cut the Flashes advantage to one run, 4-3. Reinhart drew a base on balls to open the inning and Goulet followed with a single. With runners at first and second, Barr grounded out to second base to plate Akron's second run of the game. Regan also delivered a ground out as Goulet crossed the plate for the Zips.

Kent State responded with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning and added seven runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 13-3 lead when the game ended.

The Zips and the Flashes continue the Wagon Wheel battle with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8 at Schoonover Stadium.
