Akron, Ohio - In its second year, Akron Athletics Day of Giving set a goal of raising $152,500 in support of our student-athletes. Throughout the day, Zips Nation rose to the challenge, working together to not only meet our goal, but exceed it! Thanks to the generosity of our supporters a total of $169,048.31 was raised and for that, we say Thank You.
Â
Support poured in from 731 donors, who made nearly 800 gifts to enhance the experiences of our student-athletes. Gifts were realized from 34 states and five countries, making Day of Giving  '21 a national and international affair.
Â
"We are grateful for the support from our Zips community for Athletics Day of Giving '21. The generosity of our alumni, friends and supporters made the day an overwhelming success and will provide our student-athletes with the best collegiate experience possible." said George Van Horne, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development & Marketing. "Our programs set specific fundraising goals, worked hard to achieve them, and will now be able to complete projects that will enhance their student-athlete experience."
Â
Noteworthy statistics from the day include gifts from 447 first time donors to The University of Akron, including 168 contributions from Akron Athletics Alumni. Nearly 30% of the support received from former Zips student-athletes were first time gifts.
Â
Thanks to the generosity of our Akron Athletics community, our programs will be able to complete their specified projects and gain a competitive edge over their competition that may not have been possible without the support shown on Day of Giving '21.
Â
Akron Athletics looks forward to celebrating this accomplishment with you in person at The 2021 All-Sports Summer Open, Presented by Kauilg Companies. To register to attend, visit www.gozips.com/summeropen21.Â
