AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips baseball team dropped a weekend #MACtion series to Central Michigan as the Chippewas posted four wins by scores of 13-1, 12-0, 3-2 and 15-2 at Skeeles Field.

For the series, Akron collected 23 hits and junior Bradley Goulet (Cottage Grove, Minn.) posted a 5-for-12 performance and a .417 batting average with four singles, a double, an RBI and a run scored. Junior Bryant Shellenbarger ( Mount Vernon, Ohio) followed with four hits on a 4-of-12 effort (.333) which included a double. Junior Joshua Nellis ( Williamsburg, Va.) collected the highest batting average of the weekend, posting a .500 BA on 3-for-6 performance with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Junior Dominick Trevino (.400, Edmond, Okla.), junior Cameron Tilly (.333, Canberra, Australia) and junior Tate Wargo (.200, Benld, Ill.) all added two hits each.

Akron scored the first two runs in the final game of the series for a 2-0 advantage as Nellis delivered the first base hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Nellis stole second base to move into scoring position, and with two outs, Trevino blasted a 2-2 pitch to right field to plate the game's first run.

The Zips added to the lead in the third inning as Wargo doubled to the right side and junior Austin Domer (Orrville, Ohio) followed with a sacrifice flyout to center field, scoring Wargo for Akron's second run of the game. At the end of 3-innings the Zips led 2-0.

The Chippewas answered in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs on seven hits including a grand slam and two solo homeruns. CMU added another big inning in the seventh, plating five runs on four hits to extend the advantage to 15-2.

On Saturday, CMU swept the doubleheader with a 12-0 win in game one and a narrow 3-2 victory in the nightcap. The Chippewas opened the first game with three runs on five hits for a 3-0 advantage. Central Michigan added one run in the second, fourth and sixth innings for a 6-0 lead before exploding for six runs in the seventh on two hits and an error.

In the second game of the day, Akron plated the first run as Domer singled to centerfield and was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Shellenbarger. Nellis earned the RBI with a sacrifice flyout to right field as Domer touched the plate.

Central Michigan tied the game in the second inning, producing one run on one hit and a pair of free passes. The Chippewas added two more runs to their total in the fifth inning without a hit as a fielding error and three walks contributed to the runs scored.

Akron cut into the lead as Cameron Tilly started the bottom of fifth inning with a single to left field. Bradley Goulet followed with an RBI double down the right field line and was stranded on second base. The Zips held CMU scoreless in the final two innings of play and moved another runner into scoring position but could not push the run across the plate.

Akron is scheduled to travel to DeKalb, Illinois for a weekend #MACtion series against Northern Illinois on Friday-Sunday, April 30-May 2 at Ralph McKinzie Field.
