AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips fired a 303 (+19) during the first round of the Akron Invitational hosted at Portage Country Club fueled by a 73 (+2) performance from freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) on Friday.

The Zips currently rank second overall as Indianapolis carded a 296 (+12) opening round at Akron's par-71, 6,265-yard home course, while David currently sits at the top of the leaderboard with her 2-over par ledger and is tied with UIndy's Cailyn Henderson.

David played even-par golf until registering a bogey on 181-yard, par-3 eighth hole. She finished the front-9 with 36 strokes. On the back, David bogeyed No. 12, a par-3, 163-yard hole and played even-par the rest of the way. She completed the back-9 with 37 strokes.

Sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and freshman Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron, recording a pair of 76 (+5) scores. Junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) rounded out the team scoring 78 (+7) and 84 (+13) totals, respectively. In addition, freshman Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) fired a 79 (+8) ledger as an individual.

The Zips will be back in action on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. off the first tee. Pearce, Pikunas and Dean are slated to open the final round for Akron, while David, Hahn and Shah are slated to tee-off at 9:40 a.m.
