AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track and field team continues its outdoor campaign this weekend traveling to San Antonio, Texas, to compete at the Roadrunner Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, as well as the UB Invitational hosted by Buffalo on Saturday, April 17.
UP NEXT: The Roadrunner Invitational, hosted by UTSA, will commence with opening-day competition in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon on Thursday, April 15.
The second day of the meet will open with the conclusion of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m. ET. Field events kick off with the women's hammer and men's shot put at 3 p.m. ET, while running events as part of a rolling schedule will get underway at 9 p.m. ET with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The men's long jump and pole vault along with the women's discus, high jump and long jump open final-day action at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 17. An 18-event slate on the track gets underway at 3 p.m. ET with the women's 4x100 relay.
The Zips will go against a 10-team field which includes Akron, Grand Canyon, Incarnate Word, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTEP, UT-Rio Grande Valley and UTSA.

The Akron distance runners will participate in the UB Invitational on Saturday, April 17. Field events will kick off competition at 1 p.m. before action on the track starts with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 1:30 p.m.
The Zips will go against a 13-team field which includes Akron, Alfred University, Buffalo, Canisius, SUNY Cortland, Daemen College, SUNY Fredonia, Kent State, Niagara University, SUNY Oswego, Sage College, St. Bonaventure and Utica College.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams has garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2021 outdoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on April 12, 2021 as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron ranked sixth nationally in the men's hammer and among the top 20 in two different events.
The Zips also rated 10th in the men's pole vault.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2021 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has a pair of student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2021 outdoor campaign, including, redshirt junior Abby Helminiak (Toledo, Ohio), who is 14th in the nation in the women's pole vault (13-9.25/4.20m).
Also rated among the top-25 is freshman Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) (19th in the men's pole vault – 17-6.50 (5.35m).
AKRON DUO EARNS ALL-AMERICA ACCOLADES AT NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: Akron's Hunter Garretson earned first-team All-America accolades with his eighth-place performance in the men's pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas on March 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Garretson faced some early adversity in the competition as it came down to his third and final attempt to clear the opening bar at 17-4.50 (5.30m).
He successfully eclipsed the next bar of 17-8.50 (5.40m) on his opening run at the height, before coming up shy of establish a new career-best with a clearance of the ensuing mark of 18-0.50 (5.50m).
On the strength of Garretson's performance, the Zips extended their men's team scoring streak at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to eight consecutive championships, the 13th-longest streak in the NCAA. Additionally, Akron now owns the 10th-longest men's scoring streak at the combined indoor and outdoor championships.
On the opening day of the NCAA Indoor Championships, junior Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) earned All-America honors for the first time in his decorated Zips' career finishing 11th in the men's field with a mark of 6-11.75 (2.13m).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: Freshman Fegor Clifford (Delta State, Nigeria) won the women's 400-meter hurdles at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday, April 9 registering the third-fastest time, 59.54, in outdoor program history.
A WEEK AGO: The University of Akron track and field team captured one victory as part of nine overall top-three performances on the final day of the Spec Towns Invitational hosted by Georgia on Saturday, April 10.
A day after besting the field in the women's 200 meters (24.07), junior Amya Clarke (Christ Church, St. Kitts and Nevis) won the women's 100 meters in a time of 11.83.
Junior Amir Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed second in the men's 100 meters in a time of 10.43, while redshirt sophomore Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio) crossed the line second in the men's 400 meters posting a time of 48.35.
Earning third-place performances were juniors Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) in the men's high jump (6-9.50/2.07m), Jacob Hutcherson (Uniontown, Oho) in the men's shot put (47-3.75/14.42m) and junior Kyra Keurentjes (Wehl, The Netherland) in the women's 800 meters (2:10.26) and senior Jace Roundtree (Vandergrift, Pa.) in the men's 110-meter hurdles (14.72).

Senior Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) triumphed in the women's 1,500 meters in a time of 4:26.61).
Abby Helminiak placed second in the women's pole vault clearing the bar at 13-3.50 (4.05m).
Willis finished second in the men's 200 meters in a time of 20.85.
Redshirt sophomore Laurel Bristow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished second in the women's javelin with a mark of 143-5 (43.73m).
