AKRON, Ohio –Akron head men's basketball coach John Groce announced Ryan Prather Jr. signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Zips basketball family for the 2022-23 season, as Prather made his decision public via social media on Saturday evening.
"Ryan is an extremely talented versatile guard with great size, length and toughness," Groce said. "He is an elite shooter that can create opportunities for himself and his teammates with his playmaking skills. Ryan is also a high-level defender that plays with motor and physicality."
Prather is 6-5 guard from Clarksburg, Md., and all-time leading scorer for Clarksburg High School after three seasons. As a junior, Prather averaged a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. He earned class 4A/3A Maryland Third-Team All-State selection and Washington Posts' All-MET honorable mention honors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Prather played his senior season at Bishop Walsh and is currently attending Liberty Heights Athletic Institute in Charlotte, N.C. for a post-graduate season.
Akron (1-1) will host Wheeling at James A. Rhodes Arena on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the action via live stats on GoZips.com or by Akron Sports Radio network on WHLO 640 AM.
