Zips Take on Robert Morris on Saturday

AKRON, Ohio- The Akron women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season as the Zips head to Moon Township, Pa. to take on Robert Morris on Saturday, Nov. 13. Tip time between the Zips and Colonials is set for 3 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center.

The Zips improved to 1-0 after claiming a 97-54 win over Slippery Rock in their season opener. Redshirt senior Jordyn Dawson (Huntington, W Va.) led all scorers with 31 points and was one of eight Zips to connect from beyond the arc as made 13-of-34 3-point attempts and outscored the Rock 39-9 from long distance.

Akron shot 46.1 percent (35-of-76) from the field, while Slippery Rock connected on 20-of-68 (29.4 percent). The Zips' bench had 40 bench points and controlled the paint, 40-32.

- Dawson led the Zips a year ago averaging a team-high 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game en route to a third-team All-MAC accolade.
- Dawson is rated fourth in the NCAA in points per game (31.0) and 24th in FG made (31).
- Akron is returns nearly its entire 2020-21 roster including ncluding seniors Gabrielle Brown-Mitchell (Solon, Ohio)(4.2 ppg), Kendall Miller (Akron, Ohio)(5.5 ppg, 2.33 apg) and Colleen Neitzel (Rocky River, Ohio)(5.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg), junior Lonasia Brewer (Akron, Ohio) (10.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg) and redshirt sophomore Emma Tecca (Tallmadge, Ohio) (5.4 ppg), who all started in double-figure contests for the Zips. Juniors Rachel Martindale (Pittsburgh, Pa.)(5.8 ppg) and Molly Neitzel (Rocky River, Ohio)(6.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg), redshirt sophomore Layne Ferrell (Franklin, Ohio)(5.5 ppg) and sophomore Alexis Stewart (Hamilton, Ontario) (2.9 ppg) added valuable contributions for Akron appearing in double-digit games last season.
- Making their Akron debuts against Slippery Rock were redshirt freshman Alana Carter (Mason, Ohio), freshmen Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio), Zakia Rasheed (Avon, Ind.), and sophomore Annika Corcoran (Painesville, Ohio).

The Colonials, stand 0-1 under the direction of 6th-year head coach Charlie Buscaglia after falling to 61-53 against St. Bonaventure. Sol Castro led the Colonials with 12 points on 3-of-6 from the field, while Simone Morris knocked down a pair of triples in just 11 minutes of action.

RMU is averaging 53 points per game on 30.4 percent shooting (17-of-56) from the floor and 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from long range.

Defensively, the Colonials have held their opponents to 61 points per game on 39 percent shooting (18-of-46) from the floor and only 21 percent (2-of-14) from beyond the arc.
