MOON COUNTY, Pa.- The Akron women's basketball team (2-0) used a 16-2 scoring run in the third quarter en route to a 60-50 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Events Center.

Akron had two players score in double-figures with redshirt senior Jordyn Dawson (Huntington, W Va.) leading the way with 22 points, scoring 18 of her 22 in the second half, to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) rounded out the double-figure scoring with career-high 11-point, three-rebound and two-block performance.

Akron collected 11 steals as a team with Dawson snagging six. The Zips forced 20 Colonial miscues scoring 22 points off RMU's turnovers.

RMU opened the first quarter with a 11-2 lead, before the Zips answered back with a 4-1 run that closed the Colonials' lead to 12-6. Down 21-13 at the beginning of the quarter, the Zips put together a 12-2 run, highlighted by three-pointers from senior Kendall Miller (Akron, Ohio) and junior Rachel Martindale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) that tied the score at 25-all. Robert Morris ended the second quarter on a 6-0 run that gave the Colonials a 31-25 lead as the teams headed into the locker room.

Robert Morris opened the third quarter on a 4-1 mini-run that extended the Colonial's lead to 35-26. Akron's offense got hot, putting together a commanding 16-2 scoring run that gave the Zips their first lead of the game, 43-40. The Zips outscored RMU, 19-11 in the third quarter, shooting 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the floor.

The Zips' offense continued its momentum in the fourth, outscoring Robert Morris, 16-8 and ended the period on a 9-2 run that secured the 60-50 victory for Akron.

The Zips have a quick turnaround as Akron travels to Youngstown State on Monday, Nov. 15. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on WHLO 640-AM.
