ATHENS, Ohio- The Akron volleyball team (10-13, 4-7 MAC) took down Ohio in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-18 on Saturday night at the Convocation Center to split the series.

Offensively, the Zips were led by sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) who registered 11 kills. Defensively, senior Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) and Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill.) led Akron above the net recording five blocks each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a set that contained 13 ties and six lead changes, the Zips' largest lead was 21-18. Ohio got within one, 22-23, but Akron scored the last two out of three points to secure the No. 1 set victory ending on a kill by Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio).
The Zips established the early advantage leading 10-7 on a kill from Johnson. Akron led the rest of the way as Johnson closed out the set with a kill to secure the 25-20 No.2 set victory.
Akron registered a .312 hitting percentage in the final set. Akron sprinted to a 10-7 lead over the Bobcats. The Zips maintained the lead the rest of the way closing out the match with the help of three-straight Ohio errors. Akron took the No.3 set, 25-18, and secured the match victory.

UP NEXT
The Zips will be back on the road for games with Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Akron will face Central Michigan on Friday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m., before heading to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 30 for a 3 p.m. match.
