AKRON, Ohio- The Akron volleyball team (9-11, 3-5 MAC) fell to Kent State, 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 22-25) in the first of two Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge games on Friday night at James A. Rhodes Arena.

On offense, the Zips received nine kills from senior Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio), while senior Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) recorded 28 assists.

Senior Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) led the defense with 28 digs. Weigand and senior Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill.) led the team with two blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Flashes won the first set, 25-21. Despite Akron leading in kills, 15-12, six errors proved to be costly in the opening set. Down 21-15, the Zips used a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to 21-19, before the Flashes secured the No. 1 set victory.
- Kent State held Akron to a -.139 hitting percentage while securing eight blocks to the Zips' two in the second set. The Flashes used a 5-1 run that extended their lead to 20-13. Kent State would score four-straight points en route to a 25-15 No. 2 set victory. At the end of the set, Akron had 11 attack errors, while Kent State only had two.
- Senior Jen Durra (Painesville, Ohio) led the Zips' offensive efforts in the  third set with five kills. A kill from Kelly put the Zips ahead 13-12, but a 4-1 run by the Flashes gave Kent State its first lead of the set, 16-14. Down 24-20, back-to-back kills from Durra closed the Flashes lead to 24-22, before a kill from Jacqlyn Caspers secured the 25-22 set and match win.
