Adleta Shines in Win Over Buffalo

AKRON, Ohio- Senior Alexis Adleta (West Chester, Ohio) registered a match-high 20 kills to help the Akron volleyball team (9-10, 3-4 MAC) defeat Buffalo, 4-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-19) on Thursday evening at Alumni Arena.

Adleta's 20 kills came on 37 attempts and a .486 hitting percentage. Adleta also had four service aces. Senior Megan Kelly (Lakewood, Ill) and sophomore Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) both had nine kills. The Zips out blocked the Bulls, 18-14, with senior Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) leading the way with six total blocks.

UP NEXT
Akron will host rival Kent State on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. at James A. Rhodes Arena. A full-point in the 15-sport Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge will be on the line when Akron battles Kent State this weekend with the winner of each match garnering a 0.5 point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Zips used a 9-2 scoring run gave Akron a 19-12 lead. After a Buffalo timeout, Akron would score four-straight points that secured the No. 1 set victory, 25-17. The Zips' defense held the Bulls to a .022 hitting percentage, while above the net registered eight blocks.
- The second set was a battle that consisted of 12 ties and six lead changes. With the score tied at 18-all, Buffalo went on a 7-1 scoring run that extended its lead and secure the 25-19 No.2 set victory. The Bulls used six blocks while holding the Zips to a .126 hitting percentage en route to the set victory.
- Ochaya led the Zips with three blocks and five kills in the third set. Akron replicated its play from the opening set and took an early 6-1 lead. The Bulls closed the Zips' lead to 10-7 before Akron used a 9-3 scoring run to pull ahead, 19-10. Ochaya highlighted the run with three-straight kills. Akron would go on to secure a 25-17 victory.
- The Zips trailed 12-9 before notching the score at 15. Five un-answered points gave the Zips their first lead of the set, 20-15. Akron closed out the set on a 5-1 run to win the set, 25-19, and secure the match victory. Adleta led the Zips in the third set with six kills.
