AKRON, Ohio - We continue updates from across the country and the world in what we like to call Postcards from The Zips. Up next, from men's basketball is Akron senior Loren Cristian Jackson (Chicago, Ill.).
Â
First off, are you and your family doing well?
My family and I are doing well.
Â
Where are you currently?
I'm currently in Florida.
Â
Talk about the importance of having your family around through quarantine?
Being around my family during this time has been nice because usually I don't get to be around them for very long.
Â
Can you describe what it has means to be a Zip, especially during this time?
Being a Zip means a lot as it is a big family where everyone supports one another, and you don't see that in many schools or athletic programs.
Â
How are you feeling knowing that you'll be back on campus soon?
I'm excited, I can't wait to get back on campus with my brothers and get better.
Â
What is daily life like knowing that you have been expected to stay inside?
I still workout everyday just trying to find some different things to do.
Â
Discuss your feelings as the events were occurring that ultimately led to the cancellation of spring sports and you returning home or quarantining in Akron?
I was devastated because we were not allowed to accomplish the goals that we had set out for ourselves before the season started.
Â
What are some of the things you have been doing lately to maintain and/or build your fitness for the anticipated return of sports this fall?
I lift five times a week and I'm able to get into a gym four times a week.
Â
Favorite summertime activities?
Just enjoying time with family and getting better.
Â
What are some shows or movies that you have enjoyed watching while in quarantine?
Ozarks, quite a few anime shows, and some others.
Â
What was your favorite class you took this past year or during your time at Akron?
I've enjoyed a lot of classes and a lot of different instructors. I think the teachers at Akron do a great job in making sure students understand what they are teaching and providing help when needed.
Â
Discuss your communication with your teammates around the world and back here in Ohio during this time?
I talk to all my teammates all the time in our group chat.
Â
Is there a lesson(s) that you have learned during quarantine that will help you as we move forward towards the new normal with the return of classes and sports?
Never take anything for granted. Always Trust the Process.
