AKRON, Ohio– The University of Akron Department of Athletics will host its inaugural Day of Giving on Tuesday, June 16.

The Athletics' Day of Giving is an opportunity for donors, alumni, and former student-athletes to come together to support Akron Athletics and the sports programs.

All day on June 16, UA will encourage gifts to the Z-Fund, Student Athlete Emergency Needs Fund, and scholarships. Throughout the day on all social media platforms, Athletics will be releasing personal stories from our student-athletes about the impact that giving has made on their careers as Zips.

"During these difficult times, our student-athletes have risen together to support one another and their communities while finishing the academic year with strong performances in the classroom," said George Van Horne, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development & Marketing. "Intercollegiate Athletics provides an experiential learning opportunity unlike any other on a college campus. Support of the Z-Fund, our Student-Athlete Emergency Needs Fund, and athletics scholarships on this inaugural Day of Giving will help to build our community of champions. From all of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff in Akron Athletics, THANK YOU for your continued investment in our Zips!"

Originally slated to be a livestream throughout the day with student-athletes, coaches, and staff appearances, the current iteration will look far different from the original plans, which were changed due to the pandemic.

Additionally, the drawing will be held for the Golden Ticket Raffle on June 16.

The winner of the golden ticket will ensure one lucky Zips' fan the ultimate Akron Zips experience by joining three UA teams on road trips.

Only 700 raffle tickets will be sold for $150. The winner will receive the following prize:

√    Travel for two with the football team to Clemson, September 18-19, 2020, and two tickets to the game.
√    Travel for two with the men's basketball team to Fort Myers, Fla., for the Gulf Coast Showcase, November 22-25, 2020, and two tickets to the game(s).
√    Wild Card - Travel for two to an away game with any of Akron's 20 intercollegiate teams and two tickets to the game(s).
√    $500 in Akron Zips team-issued apparel

Fans may purchase a Golden Ticket online at www.uakron.edu/giving/ultimate, or by texting Ultimate to 41444. All proceeds go to benefit the Z-Fund and support for student-athletes at The University of Akron.
