AKRON, Ohio - We continue updates from across country and the world in what we like to call Postcards from The Zips. Up next, from women's soccer is Akron senior Lauren Lambert (Stoutsville, Ohio).
Â
First off, are you and your family doing well?
Â
We are all doing well. My parents are both working from home, my brother is out of school until further notice, so we have been getting a lot of time together. We have been keeping busy with lots of movies and completing projects around the house!Â
Â
With reflection and time spent with your family back home, have you been able to wrap your head around what has occurred or is it still too soon?
Â
The time in the world right now has definitely been one to remember. Going into my senior year, it was a little devastating losing my last spring training with the team and especially the other seniors. We have all made the most of it, with constant communication and even FaceTime while doing workouts. The coaches have been wonderful throughout this by providing daily trainings and emotional support by encouraging us to stay active.Â
Â
What is daily life like back home knowing that you're expected to stay inside your homes?
Â
Thankfully, life at home has kept me really busy. I have been running with my mom a lot every day. We have started a running challenge that two girls on the team and I did one day. We run a mile each hour for 13 hours, so throughout the course of the day we would have run a half marathon! My mom loved the idea, so we try and get several miles in each day after her workday.
Â
I have had quite a bit of schoolwork, so I usually try and spend a couple hours a day on that to make sure everything is squared away, especially with finals week in a couple weeks. My family has also had several board game nights where we play as many games as we can which normally ends with the game pie (whip cream) in the face.Â
Â
Can you describe what it has meant to be a Zip, especially during this time?Â
Â
Being a Zip during this time has made my love of Akron grow even stronger (I didn't know that was possible). Akron became my second home the second I stepped on campus and even more so being on campus the past three years. You can really tell the staff cares about the athletes, their students, and their colleagues.  Everyone is in constant communication making sure everyone is okay whether it be for their sport, their academics, or life in general. You can see the love everyone shares for each other. I am so proud to be a Zip and I am honored I will be able to say I graduated from such of an amazing university.Â
