Akron Lacrosse Set to Host St. Bonaventure

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron lacrosse is set to host St. Bonaventure on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m., at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.

Akron, led by head coach Christy Mitchell, comes in at 0-4. The Zips continue their quest for their first victory, as they are coming off an improved performance against Butler, falling to the Bulldogs, 14-7.

Freshman Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) leads the Zips with seven goals on the season. Junior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.) and freshman Kaitlyn Morris (West Seneca, N.Y.) have also contributed to the Zips offensive production, each scoring six goals and an assist.

Defensively, freshman Gianna Buzzelli (Gibsonia, Pa.) has done a solid job slowing down the opposing attack, as she leads the team in caused turnovers with 11. Sophomore Kaylee Riggins (Zionsville, Ind.) is close behind with nine caused turnovers, while leading the team in ground balls with 16.

Freshman Abby Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa.) has seen playing time in all five games this season, including three starts. She's compiled 40 saves on 91 shots, good for a .440 save percentage.

St. Bonaventure, under first-year head coach Jason Levesque come into this game at 4-0. Last week, the Bonnies defeated fellow ASUN member and rival Kent State, 15-7, and are coming off a 14-13 victory over Wofford.

They are led by senior Destinee Johnson who leads the team with 14 goals in just three short games. Junior Savannah Clarke and freshman Ashley Herrick have each started two games and have won both.

The Zips return to action on Wednesday, March 11, as they will head to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on Duquesne at 4 p.m.
