Akron Baseball Drops 12-1 Decision at Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. — In its first road game of the 2020 season, the University of Akron baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision at Pepperdine at Eddy D. Field Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Zips (0-3 overall) had four hits on the day.
Â
Pepperdine (5-0 overall) jumped on the scoreboard first with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Waves added two runs in the second off of a two-RBI homerun by CF Billy Cook.

Akron scored its lone run in the top of fifth as freshman 3B Kaito Hara (Houston, Texas) singled down the right line, scoring junior 1B Cameron Tilly (Canberra, Australia), who reached on an error by the shortstop.

Pepperdine added three runs in the bottom of the sixth and four runs in the eighth to seal the win.

Junior righty Taed Heydinger (Bayfield, Colo.) started the game for the Zips and took the loss (0-1). He threw 6.0 innings, fanning three and walking four.

Will Jensen (2-0) got the win for Pepperdine. He pitched 7.0 innings, fanning eight and walking one.

"Our guys played hard today in Malibu," said first-year head coach Chris Sabo. "Unfortunately, we ran into a very good pitcher and team. We will regroup tonight and hope to have a better outcome on Saturday."
