Akron-Illinois State Tennis Match Postponed

AKRON, Ohio – The women's tennis match between the University of Akron and Illinois State, schedule for Saturday, Feb. 22, has been postponed due to illness.

The teams will reschedule the match for March. Details will follow once confirmed.

AKRON, Ohio – In its only action on the week, the University of Akron women's tennis team will host Illinois State (4-3 overall) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.

In series action, the teams are tied with one win each. Last spring at Illinois State, the Zips claimed a 6-1 victory.

"They're a solid team," interim head coach Brian Peters said of the Redbirds. "They are scrappy. They are willing to stay out there to claw and fight as long as need be. We have to be ready for that. We've worked a lot on playing aggressive tennis the last few weeks. We need to minimize our errors. They will be a tough team to play."

Sophomore Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico) stands 11-6 overall in singles action, playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She is 1-6 in doubles action, including 4-2 this spring. Junior Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) is 6-4 overall in singles action.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of senior captain Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) and junior Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany), this week's MAC Doubles Team of the Week, stands a perfect 2-0 this spring.
