Jackson Earns Third MAC Weekly Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the third time this season, junior Loren Cristian Jackson (Chicago, Ill.) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Jackson led the Akron Zips to a pair of wins over two top-ranked MAC opponents last week. Â Akron defeated Bowling Green (74-59) at home and Central Michigan (80-67) on the road with Jackson leading the scoring in both games, notching 28 and 31 points (59 points total), respectively.

During that stretch, Jackson averaged 29.5 points on 60.6 percent shooting from the floor (20-of-33) which included a 50.0 percent effort from deep (8-of-16). In addition, he was perfect from the free throw line, knocking down all 11 attempts. Jackson also posted five steals (2.5 stl/g), four assists (2.0 ast/g) and three rebounds (1.5 rebs/g).

Against the Falcons, Jackson shot 9-of-17 from the floor with a 3-of-7 performance from long distance and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. He grabbed three rebounds, dished out one assist and had two steals. The Zips improved to 12-2 at home and 4-2 in league play.

At Central Michigan, Jackson put on a show, scoring 20 second-half points en route to the 31 point performance. Jackson was extremely efficient, cashing in on 11-of-16 shots from the floor and 5-of-9 from downtown. He registered a perfect 4-of-4 effort from the charity stripe while dishing out three assist and securing three steals. The Zips improved to 6-3 on the road and 5-1 in MAC play.

The Zips moved to second overall in MAC play, trailing Bowling Green by a half game. The Zips are 19-6 overall and 9-3 in MAC play while improving to 5-1 in league road games.

Akron will be on the road again in Michigan, this time in Kalamazoo to take on Western Michigan. On Tuesday, Feb. 18, The Zips will battle the Broncos at Read Fieldhouse.
