Jackson Earns MAC Player of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior guard Loren Cristian Jackson (Chicago, Ill.) earned Mid-American Player of the Week honors for his performance in the MAC opener against Ohio during the week of Dec. 21-27, the league announced on Monday.
Jackson led the Akron men's basketball team to a 90-70 win over Ohio with 21 points and eight assists. Jackson shot 43.8 percent from the field (7-of-16), including a 50.0 percent effort from long distance. He knocked down 5-of-10 triples and was perfect from the charity stripe, draining both of his free throw attempts.
Jackson currently leads Akron in scoring and assists, averaging 24 points and 8.5 assists per game. He has scored double digits in the Zips first four games with three 20-plus point performances and a season-high double-double of 34 points and 10 assists against Malone.
Jackson has buried a team-best 12 long distance buckets (.375) and is shooting 47.6 percent from the field. The reigning MAC Player of the Year has scored 109 points in four games, totaling 1,171 points for his Akron career. He ranks 28th overall in scoring at Akron.
The Zips are scheduled to be back in action on New Year's Day (Jan. 1) at James A. Rhodes Arena against Central Michigan on CBS Sports Network. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
