CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's basketball team fell 81-74 to St. Bonaventure at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Loren Cristian Jackson (Chicago, Ill.) led the Zips' scoring efforts with 22 points and seven assists. Jackson only scored four points by intermission as the Zips had plenty of open looks, but the shots just wouldn't fall. Akron (1-1) was 2-of-17 from deep and 9-of-28 from the floor in the first 20-minutes of the game. On the other side of the floor, St. Bonaventure (1-0) shot 15-of-39 from the field and only 1-of-10 from long distance, able to establish a 36-25 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Akron's shooting improved as Jackson poured in 18 points and senior Camron Reece (Oakland, Calif.) added a 10-point effort. Reece finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds. Senior Maishe Dailey (Beechwood, Ohio) also corralled five boards while sophomore Jermaine Marshall (Birmingham, Ala.) led the Zips on the glass with a career-high nine rebounds. Marshall and sophomore Ali Ali (Kendallville, Ind.) chipped in nine points each.

The Bonnies scored 56 points in the paint as Osun Osunniyi led St. Bonaventure with 25 points. Dominick Welch and Kyle Lofton recorded 18 and 17 points, respectively. The Bonnies forced 17 turnovers which reculted in 11 points.

Akron never held the lead in the game and won the battle of the boards 41-36.

Up next for the Zips is a pair of Mid-American Conference games. Akron opens league play on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. in Kent. The first installment of the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Wagon Wheel Challenge is schedule to be aired on ESPN3 and heard on WHLO 640 AM.

The Zips return to James A. Rhodes Arena for the final game of 2020, hosting the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.
