Williams Tabbed MAC East Player of the Week

University of Akron men's basketball senior Xeyrius Williams (Springfield, Ohio) earned his second Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Eastern Division Co-Player of the Week award, sharing the honor with Kent State's Antonio Williams, the league announced on Monday.

Williams led the Zips to a pair of Mid-American Conference wins last week, averaging a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. He shot 66.7 percent from all areas of the court and connected on eight 3-pointers, 12-of-18 from the field and 8-of-12 from deep. Williams scored 34 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, had three steals and dished out two assists.

Williams scored 11 points in Akron's 84-69 triumph over Western Michigan to start the week. He shot 4-of-5 (.800) from the field which included a 3-of-4 (.750) effort from long distance. Williams added a team-high eight rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Against Ball State, Williams recorded his fifth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 23 points while securing 12 rebounds. Williams shot 8-of-13 (.615) from the floor and 5-of-8 (.625) from downtown with one assist.

The Zips will make the long trip west for their next game, a road tilt against MAC West foe Northern Illinois set for Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. ET. The contest can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on 1350-AM, serving as a one-game road trip before Akron returns home to face Toledo on Jan. 18.
