AKRON, Ohio – For the third consecutive season, the Akron Zips women's golf team returns to the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Lexington, Ky. hosted by Kentucky on Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29.
The 30th annual Bettie Lou Evans Invitational is a three-day, 54-hole tournament scheduled to be played at the par-72, 6,114-yard University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course, a well-known venue for Zips' head coach Jenny King having played her collegiate career at UK.
"We are lucky to be here at the Bettie Lou Invitational," King said. " It is always a great event on a very challenging course. The key to success here is to handle the wind and the pin placements properly and smart. The birdie opportunities are definitely there for the taking. "
The field includes 13 teams at King's alma mater as UK is set to host Akron, Cinncinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Indianapolis, Marshall, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, Penn State, Rutgers, Tulane and Western Kentucky.
Round one will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on Friday with tee times off holes No. 1 and 10. Saturday's format will also use tee times, starting at 8:30 a.m., while Sunday, the final round will begin at 9 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. The Zips starting five consists of sophomores Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and freshmen Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio), Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) and Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio).
Shah and Pikunas are the only two returning golfers from Akron's roster that have competed in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. Last year, Shah carded rounds of 81 (+9), 77 (+5), and 76 (+4) for a 234 (+18) tournament total. In 2017, Pikunas led the Zips' scoring with an 8-over par 224-stroke performance. She finished tied for 22nd overall with rounds of 73 (+1), 74 (+2) and 77 (+5). The Zips placed 11th overall in 2018 and 14th overall in 2017.
Shah leads the Zips' scoring efforts in 2019 with a 74.33 stroke average and Pikunas has registered a 78.0 in two events. Dean enters her third collegiate tournament with a 77.83 stroke average while David and Hahn make their second-career appearances with 77.0 and 77.33 stroke averages, respectively.

Tournament History
The tournament is entering its 30th season and third consecutive season for the Zips. The tournament, formerly known as the Wildcat Fall Invitational, began in 1979 and was played every year until a four-year break from 1998 to 2001. There were also one-year breaks in 2007 and 2010 before a five-season gap from 2012 to 2016.
The Bettie Lou Evans Invitational has been held at the University Club since 2002. It was previously played at Spring Valley Country Club.
Kentucky has won the tournament 12 times, including last season. Memphis is the only other team in the 2019 field to claim a tournament title (2006).
UK's Leonie Bettel earned last year's individual championship with a 54-hole tournament record 205 strokes, surpassing the 211 for the previous season's co-champions Grace Rose (Kentucky) and Emma Albrecht (Notre Dame) .
Kentucky holds the tournament record 54-hole score of 858 in 2018. The 18-hole team record also belongs to Penn State, which shot a 278 in the third round of last year's tournament.
Leonie Bettel (Kentucky) and Mary Parsons (Indiana) owns the lowest 18-hole individual score with a 66 in 2018 and 2017, respectively.
