CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron cross country senior Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) was honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Andrews finished first in the women's 5K race at the Tommy Evans Invitational on Sept. 7, in a career-best time of 17:11.2, a more than 50-second victory over her second-place competitor, to lead Akron to the women's title with 45 points.
The Akron men's and women's cross country teams return to competition traveling to Cedarville, Ohio for the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships on Sept. 28.
