Akron, Ohio –The University of Akron men's basketball program will host their annual Summer Classic Golf Outing presented by FirstEnergy on Friday, Aug. 23, at Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina.

The 2019 Summer Classic will feature one flight of golf with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The shotgun start is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by dinner and awards around 4 p.m.

"Over the last two years, we have established a championship culture with the goal to continue to move the needle forward as a collective unit, #1Akron," head coach John Groce said. "We are committed to continue the Akron Zips tradition of excellence, return to the top of the league standings, and play deep into March. A community effort is required to achieve the vision of excellence that we have for our players and the basketball program."

There are many ways you can participate, from playing as part of a foursome to taking part in one of the many sponsorship opportunities for the event. If you are unable to participate in this year's outing, please consider making a gift to the men's basketball enhancement fund.

The cost for the Summer Classic is $160 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, food, beverages, and the tee prize package. Those who are not participating in the golf outing but plan to attend the dinner may do so at a cost of $35 per person.

Men's basketball alumni rates and a variety of sponsorship opportunities are also available; for details, please see the 2019 Summer Classic Golf Outing Brochure (PDF). In addition, online registration will be available Friday, July 19.

Come out on Friday, Aug. 23, to socialize with the coaching staff and enjoy a day on the links with the Akron basketball family at Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Ohio.
