Gross Earns Bronze Medal at USA Shooting National Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Akron rifle freshman, Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.) competed in the USA Shooting National Championships in Fort Benning, Georgia, June 22-29.
In the smallbore rifle division, Gross finished 12th overall, topping some of the best in the nation including former Olympians. In the junior category (under 21), Gross earned fourth in the qualifying round and first in the finals. Overall, Andre earned third overall in the junior category.
The bronze medal finish for Gross garnered him with the coveted jacket which is presented to juniors who are invited to be members of the USA Junior National Development Team. With this honor, Gross will be able to join the team as USA Shooting, the national governing body for USA Olympic shooting, sends it to World Cup competitions to test their skills at the international level while representing America.
"Andre learns from every competition, but most importantly he spends most of his energy looking forward towards what is coming up next," head coach Newt Engle said. "We are so lucky to have Andre representing The University of Akron and now the USA, in the sport of Olympic Rifle."
