AKRON, Ohio –The University of Akron baseball program will host its 2019 Summer Golf Outing on Monday, July 22, at Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Zips' head coach Chris Sabo announced on Wednesday in the statement below.

"We're back! My staff and I are ready for the return of Zips baseball in 2020, and would like to invite all alumni, fans, and supporters to the annual baseball golf outing at Shale Creek Golf Club.

The baseball golf outing will feature one flight of golf with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., and shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m. Lunch and awards will follow around 2 p.m.

We have been working diligently to recruit student-athletes that will represent the University of Akron and Akron baseball properly. Our eventual success and pursuit of championships is influenced by you and others who faithfully support our program.

Thanks to your efforts over the past year, we have had much success on the fundraising front. We need to continue the drive to honor your legacy and build a championship program. Bill and Mary Skeeles provided a generous million-dollar gift to install an artificial playing surface at the baseball stadium. This gift will allow us to play and practice in Northeast Ohio's varying weather conditions.

In addition, many former players and members of the community have provided support for scholarships and other program needs. We appreciate all of the support, which has made a huge impact in bringing baseball back. However, there is still much more to be done.

Come out on Monday, July 22, 2019, to Shale Creek in Medina, Ohio, to socialize with baseball alumni, friends, and coaching staff and enjoy a day on the links to support baseball.

There are many ways you can participate, from playing as part of a foursome to taking part in one of the many sponsorship opportunities for the event. If you are unable to participate in this year's outing, please consider making a gift to the Baseball Enhancement Fund.

If all 710 alumni commit to giving $500 annually, we can raise an additional $355,000 per year for the program. These funds will be used for scholarships, field improvements and other program needs."
