Women's Soccer Announces 2019 Schedule

AKRON, Ohio– Akron women's soccer head coach Noreen Herlihy officially announces the 2019 women's soccer schedule that features 11 contests at FirstEnergy Stadium and includes six matches on the Zips home pitch during Mid-American Conference play.Â

"We are really excited for the new season," said Herlihy. "This team has worked really hard over the offseason. We also look forward to the addition of our new players and see where it takes us this season!"

In three months, the Akron women's soccer team will step on to the pitch for the 19thseason of competition in program history and begin its quest for a Mid-American Conference Championship.Â
Â
Following training camp and a friendly exhibition against St. Francis at home (Aug. 14), the first touch of the 2019 campaign is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23, under the lights of FirstEnergy Stadium at 7 p.m.Â
Â
The Zips cap off the opening weekend of play with a trip up north to Cleveland State on Sunday, Aug. 25.Â
Â
Over the Labor Day weekend, Akron is slated for a pair of contests starting at home on Thurs., Aug. 29 against the visiting Niagara Purple Eagles. The Zips then travel to Morehead, K.Y., for a non-conference match-up against Morehead State on Sunday, Sept. 1.Â

Two non-league foes from the state of Ohio are on tap for the Zips on Friday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 8. Akron heads to Youngstown State (Sept. 6) for a 7 p.m. contest against the Penguins before returning to the friendly confines of FirstEnergy Stadium against Xavier (Sept. 6) to start a three-game homestand.Â

Non-conference play comes to a close as Akron hosts Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 15 and Robert Morris four days later on Thursday, Sept. 19.Â

MACtion kicks off on the road for Akron as the Zips head to northwest Ohio. Akron takes on the defending MAC Tournament Champions, Bowling Green, on Friday, Sept. 27, before heading to Toledo to go head-to-head with the 2017 MAC Tournament Champions in the Rockets.Â

Akron makes its home debut inside league play as the Zips next three games are played at FirstEnergy Stadium. UA welcomes in Ball State (Oct. 4), Miami (Oct. 6), and Ohio (Oct. 10) throughout the homestand.Â

On Sunday, Oct. 10, Akron takes a short drive 15 minutes down the road to take on its cross-town rivals, Kent State, in a rendition of the Wagon Wheel Challenge.Â

In the final two and half weeks of the regular season, Akron is home for three matches and on the road for a pair of contests. Akron squares off against Western Michigan (Oct. 18) and Northern Illinois (Oct. 20) at home. The Zips close out the road portion of the 2019 campaign at Eastern Michigan (Oct. 24) and Central Michigan (Oct. 27).Â

The 2019 regular-season comes to a close as on Thursday, Oct. 31, as Akron hosts its travel partner, Buffalo.Â

The quarterfinal round 2019 MAC tournament is slated to begin at campus sites on Nov. 3, followed by the semifinals (Nov. 8) and championship game (Nov. 10).

Heading into the 2019 season, the Akron women's soccer roster returns 14 letterwinners from the 2018 squad, including All-MAC Second Team selection, Ashley Amato, and the Zips top-two goal scorers from 2018 in Carly Pcholinsky and Sydney Worthy.Â

Starting in 2019, admission to all Akron women's soccer regular-season home contests is free.Â
