Akron Women’s Lacrosse Signs First Student-Athletes

AKRON, Ohio —University of Akron first-year head coach Christy Mitchell announced the first members of the inaugural Zips women's lacrosse team.
On Thursday, she signed 15 student-athletes to commitments to study at UA.
"I am excited about this group of talented athletes," Mitchell said. "I am incredibly proud to see this program piece together, and I know that this group will be amazing culture setters, which will start the program off super strong."
The class features homegrown talent. Eight student-athletes list their hometowns within the state of Ohio.
Additionally, two incoming Zips hail from Pennsylvania and one each from Florida, Illinois, Indiana, New York, and North Carolina.
Additionally, all 15 are high school seniors. Six are listed at attack, five at midfield, three on defense, and one at goalkeeper.
Seven of the signees played at least one other sport in high school. Eleven earned academic honors for sporting a 3.5+ grade-point average.
Akron women's lacrosse begins competitive play in the spring of 2020 as a member of the ASUN Conference.
