AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams return to competition this weekend traveling to California to compete at a quartet of meets.
The Zips open up their efforts at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18, before taking part in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 18) and Beach Invitational (April 19-20) hosted by Long Beach State and the Mt. Sac Relays (April 18-20) hosted by Mt. San Antonio College in Torrance, Calif.
UP NEXT: The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams will compete in a quartet of meets this week as the Zips travel to California.
Akron freshman Bobby Casey (Mayfield, Ohio), redshirt junior Malik Hudson (Cleveland, Ohio) and senior Kamar Majid (Akron, Ohio) will commence competition for the Zips competing in the men's decathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18.
The two-day event will kick off on Wednesday, April 17, with a pair of groups in the 100 meters at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. ET. A rolling schedule for final-day efforts begins in groups at 1:30, 2:30, 4 and 5 p.m. ET.

The Zips then will split their efforts between the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 18) and Beach Invitational (April 19-20) hosted by Long Beach State along with the Mt. Sac Relays (April 18-20) hosted by Mt. San Antonio College in Torrance, Calif.
The running of the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays, which is in its 61st year, opens with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:50 p.m. ET on Thursday. Competition resumes on Friday with the men's 110-meter hurdles at 2 p.m. ET before concluding on Saturday with the men's 4x400 invitational relay at 7:42 p.m. ET.
Redshirt junior Tevin Brown (Toledo) will compete in the men's 10,000 meters on Thursday, April 18 at 10 p.m. ET, while senior Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) runs in the women's 3,000-meter invitational steeplechase on Friday, April 19 at 10:25 p.m. ET.

The women's javelin at 12 p.m. ET will start the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday with the final event being the men's 4x400 relay at 8:50 p.m. ET.

The Beach Invitational begins on Friday with the women's high jump at 3 p.m. ET before the meet concludes opening-day action with the men's javelin at 6:45 p.m. ET. The final day of the competitions opens with the men's high jump at 12 p.m. ET before action on the track rounds out with the men's 4x400 relay at 9:55 p.m. ET.

THIS WEEK IN AKRON TRACK AND FIELD WITH HEAD COACH DENNIS MITCHELL:
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron men's track and field squad is ranked No. 44 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Rating Index released April 15.
The Zips' men's squad is rated eighth in the most-current Great Lakes Regional ratings, while the women's team checks in at No. 10.
Akron is the top-rated Mid-American Conference team ranked in the men's national poll, while the Zips' women's squad checks in at No. 69.
In the Event Squad rankings released on April 15, Akron is ranked second nationally in the men's pole vault and among the top 20 in four different events.
Akron is also rated 13th in the men's long jump, 14th in the women's 400-meter hurdles and 17th in the men's javelin.
ZIPS AMONG NATION'S BEST IN LATEST TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron has six student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) is this week's rankings, including senior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio), who is second in the nation in the men's pole vault (18-6.50/5.65m).
Also rated among the top-25 are seniors Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) (fifth in women's pole vault - 14-5.25/4.40m), Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) (12th in men's high jump - 7-2.25/2.19m) and Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) (13th in the men's long jump - 25-6/7.77m), redshirt junior Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) (16th in men's javelin - 231-9/70.63m) and freshman Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) (23rd in the men's high jump - 7-0.25/2.14m).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: Mackenzie Andrews registered a career-best outdoor mark of 10:27.21, which stands as the second-best performance in outdoor program history, to capture the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 5.
Redshirt sophomore Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) registered the third-best outdoor performance in program history winning the men's triple jump at the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 5 with a career-best mark of 50-1.75 (15.28m).
Senior Olivia Snyder (Navarre, Ohio) placed fifth in the women's shot with a mark of 50-1.25 (15.27m) at the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 6 with the fifth-best outdoor performance in program history.
A WEEK AGO: Led by victories in the men's and women's javelin from Ian Behm and freshman Laurel Bristow (Pittsburgh, Pa.), the University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams capped the final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad registering a pair of individual victories as part of six overall top-three performances at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex on April 6.
Behm won the men's javelin with a mark of 205-2 (62.53m), while Bobby Casey, Kamar Majid and Malik Hudson recorded marks of 178-11 (54.53m), 164-1 (50.02m) and 163-4 (49.79m) to earn third-, fourth- and fifth-place showings, respectively.
Bristow and freshman Trinity Clark (Kane, Pa.) garnered first- and second-place efforts in the women's javelin with marks of 144-9 (44.13m) and 141-1 (43.00m).
Akron collected 18 victories as part of 41 overall top-three performances on the opening day of the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 5, at the Farmers National Bank Field on the campus of Youngstown State University.
Recording the second-fastest performance in outdoor program history to win the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 10:27.21 was Mackenzie Andrews.
Taking the top-two spots in the women's 1,500 meters was sophomore Leah Recker (Findlay, Ohio) and junior Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio), as the duo crossed the line in 4:39.61 and 4:41.95, respectively. Recker went on to also win the women's 800 meters in 2:16.61.
Lucy Bryan cleared 14-4 (4.37m) to take first-place honors in the women's pole vault, while redshirt sophomore Abby Helminiak (Toledo, Ohio) surpassed 12-11.50 (3.95m) to finish second.
Matt Ludwig eclipsed 18-0.50 (5.50m) to win the men's pole vault, while junior Matt Keim (Bollivar, Ohio) placed third with a career-best outdoor mark of 16-8.25 (5.09m).
The Zips captured the top-three finishes in the men's long jump as Jordan Latimer, Hesham Eldesouky and Casey posted marks of 24-10.50 (7.58m), 24-1.50 (7.35m) and 22-9.25 (6.94m), respectively.
Registering the third-best mark, 50-1.75 (15.28m), in outdoor program history to win the men's triple jump was Eldesouky, while junior Marcques Gibbs (Darby, Pa.) finished second with a mark of 46-5.25 (14.15m).
Redshirt sophomore Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) captured the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in a career-best time of 9:18.87, while redshirt sophomore Marc Migliozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio) finished first and second, respectively, in the men's 1,500 meters registering times of 3:56.53 and 3:57.59.
Sophomore Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) recorded a career-best time of 17:27.53 to capture the women's 5,000 meters, while senior Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio) finished second in a career-best time of 17:32.77.
Freshman Nuh Andu (Doha, Qatar) won the men's high jump with a mark of 6-9.50 (2.07m), while redshirt junior Maike Anstett (Karlsruhe, Germany) finished first in the women's high jump with a career-best clearance of 5-6.50 (1.69m).
Freshman Zoi Balamouti (Heraklion, Greece) recorded the top mark in the women's long jump, 17-7 (5.36m) to win the event.
Balamouti and Anstett later recorded marks of 37-5.25 (11.41m) and 37-5.25 (11.41m) to place second and third in the women's triple jump.
Senior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) was first across the line in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 13.85, while freshman Victoria Abunaw (Maumee, Ohio) finished third in 14.34.
Freshmen Amir Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Zach Robinson (Pickerington, Ohio) went one-two in the men's 400 meters registering career-best times of 48.96 and 49.47.
Collecting career-best times of 1:56.29 and 1:56.34 to finish first and second, respectively, in the men's 800 meters was freshman Sam Janson (Dayton, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Noah Williams (Hilton, N.Y.).
Junior Iman Batiste (Dublin, Ohio) recorded a career-best time of 57.67 to triumph in the women's 400 meters, while junior Bailey Lack (Brunswick, Ohio) crossed the line second in 58.21.
Freshman Sara Foster (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), junior Dimitra Gnafaki (Chania, Greece) and senior Sydney Stokes (Gahanna, Ohio) swept the top-three spots in the women's 400-meter hurdles posting times of 61.93, 62.78 and 64.54, respectively.
Tevin Brown recorded a career-best outdoor time of 14:44.09 to place second in the men's 5,000 meters.

A YEAR AGO: University of Akron seniors Jackie Siefring and Patricia Ortega each turned in record-setting efforts in the women's heptathlon registering seven-event cumulative scores of 5,872 and 5,782, respectively, on the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on April 19, 2018 in Azusa, Calif.
Garnering the second-best score in program history, 5,872, Siefring finished second in flight four, while Ortega also posted a career-best performance to win flight three on the strength of the third-highest score (5,782) in program history.
Terrell McClain turned in a statement performance soaring a national-best and school-record 26-10 (8.18m) in the men's long jump to headline the Zips' performances at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on April 21, 2018.
McClain's effort bettered Collister Fahie' school-record mark of 26-3.75 (8.02m) set on June 25, 2011. He finished behind only Jeff Henderson from adidas, who jumped 27-0.50 (8.24m).
Equally impressive in the men's long jump was Jordan Latimer, who established a then career-best mark of 25-10.25 (7.88m) to place third.
Matt Ludwig eclipsed a career-best 18-8.75 (5.71m) to win the men's pole vault. His effort represented the second-best jump in outdoor program history.
Abigale Wilson unleashed the second-best mark in outdoor program history in the women's discus with a throw of 185-9 (56.62m) to place seventh.
Lucy Bryan equaled the top jump in the women's pole vault as the top collegiate finisher and matched a then career-best mark of 14-3.25 (4.35m) to place third (based on jumps).
Dara Perry and Curtis Richardson registered victories in the women's 100-meter hurdles and men's high jump to direct the Zips' efforts at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State on April 19, 2018.
Richardson captured the men's high jump eclipsing 6-9.50 (2.07m), while Perry won the women's 100-meter hurdles crossing the line in 13.41.
The women's 4x100 relay squad of Ariadna Ramos Gandia, Daziah Green, Stephanie Hale and Perry posted a time of 45.89 to finish third and headline the Zips' performances at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 20, 2018.
ANDREWS NAMED MAC WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: University of Akron track and field senior Mackenzie Andrews was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, April 9.
