AKRON, Ohio – In the only action on the week, the University of Akron women's tennis team visits defending Mid-American Conference champion Buffalo on Saturday, April 13.
The Zips (18-5 overall, 3-2 MAC) take on the Bulls (14-5 overall, 3-2 MAC) at 1 p.m. at the Miller Tennis Center.
"The conference is extremely tight, which we expected it to be," said Akron head coach Brandon Padgett. "We are still in position if we win out, we could conceivable tie for the regular-season championship or if we lose both matches, we could also not be in the tournament at all."
In series action, Akron holds a 15-11 series advantage over Buffalo. Last season, the Zips dropped a 6-1 decision to the conference champion.
"Buffalo is always strong, has strong doubles, deep singles," he said. "We know they'll be ready to play. We have the same record. It's a huge match for us."
Akron will be led by redshirt senior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) at the No. 1 spot. The 2017 MAC Player of the Year, she stands 25-4 in singles action, 17-1 in spring action, and 5-0 in MAC play, all at the No. 1 spot. Geier will finish her collegiate career ranked No. 2 in career singles wins (currently has 102) and combination singles/doubles wins (currently has 169).
