Women’s Tennis Travels to Toledo for Saturday Match

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team travels to Toledo for its first Mid-American Conference road match this season.
The Zips (17-3 overall, 2-0 MAC) face the Rockets (9-6 overall, 1-1 MAC) on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at the Twos Athletic Club.
"Toledo is always a challenge," said Akron head coach Brandon Padgett. "The Rockets are talented and fight hard. We always play a tight match. Tracy (Mauntler) does a great job preparing her team. They will be focused and ready to play on Saturday."
In series action, Toledo holds a 31-13 series advantage over Akron. Last season, the Zips claimed a 5-2 victory at home.
Akron will be led by redshirt senior and three-time team captain Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) at the No. 1 spot. The 2017 MAC Player of the Year, she stands 22-4 in singles action, 14-1 in spring action, and 2-0 in MAC play, all at the No. 1 spot.
Sophomore Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany), this week's MAC Singles Player of the Week, stands 18-8 overall and 15-3 this spring (2-0 in MAC play), playing at No. 1 and No. 2. She is a perfect 4-0 at the No. 1 spot.
Sophomore Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) stands 17-9 overall and 13-4 this spring (2-0 in MAC play), at the No. 2-3 spots.
Senior Luisa Echeverry (Cali Colombia) is 11-7 in singles action this spring, playing the No. 3-4 spots.
Junior captain Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) is 12-5 this spring, including 2-0 in MAC play, at the No. 4-6 spots.
Senior Carla Flores (Coahuila, Mexico) stands 5-2 in singles action this spring, playing the No. 5-6 positions.
Freshman Enya Forgaci (Boca Raton, Fla.) stands 5-2 in singles action, playing mostly at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, Pedroso and Vasilescu stand 17-8 overall and 12-6 this spring at the No. 1 position.
At No. 2 doubles, Geier and Uljanov are 12-4 overall and 9-4 this spring.
