Akron Women’s Tennis Captures 4-3 Win over Bowling Green

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team captured its ninth consecutive win with a 4-3 victory over Bowling Green in Mid-American Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.

The Zips (17-3 overall, 2-0 MAC) dropped the doubles point to the Falcons (7-8 overall, 0-2 MAC).

"We are happy that we were able to pick up the team win today, but we also know that we need to close out matches better moving forward," said ninth-year head coach Brandon Padgett. "We felt like we were in control on five of the singles courts today but weren't able to come away with the win on each of those courts. We will learn from this and get better for sure."

Akron rebounded in singles action, claiming victories in the first four matches for the team win.

At. No. 1, redshirt senior captain Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) defeated Marharita-Sophia Tavpash in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 2, sophomore Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) beat out Paula Comella, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 3, sophomore Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) won in straight sets over Polina Radeva, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 5, junior captain Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) defeated Marta Bettinelli, 6-2, 6-2.

Akron travels to Toledo for a 1 p.m. MAC match on Saturday, March 30. The match will be televised on ESPN3.
