THE BOWERMAN MEN'S PRE-NCAA INDOOR WATCH LIST RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS, La. – University of Akron senior pole vaulter Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) continues to garner recognition for his performances this season as he was named to The Bowerman Men's Pre-NCAA Watch List released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday, Feb. 28.
The Bowerman, collegiate track and field's highest honor, is bestowed each December at the USTFCCCA Convention to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athletes from the previous season.
The 2017 NCAA Outdoor champion in the men's pole vault and five-time All-America honoree, Ludwig enters this year's NCAA Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Friday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET, in Birmingham, Ala., owning the second-best jump in the country surpassing 19-1.50 (5.83m) at the Akron-Kent State Dual (Jan. 25).
Ludwig won his fifth straight league crown at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 23, in the men's pole vault eclipsing a meet-record mark of 19-0.75 (5.81m), bettering the record set by former Zips' All-American Shawn Barber in 2015.
A season ago, he garnered first-team All-America accolades after placing fourth in the pole vault at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships with a jump of 18-2.50 (5.55m).
