CLEVELAND — The Mid-American Conference announced the 2019 football schedule on Wednesday, and the University of Akron football team will make several national television appearances.
Â
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Tom Arth, Akron opens the 2019 season at Illinois (Aug. 31). Non-conference games include: at home against UAB (Sept. 7) and Troy (Sept. 21); and on the road at Massachusetts (Sept. 28).

The Zips open MAC play at Central Michigan on Sept. 14. UA opens its home MAC slate with rival Kent State in its annual Homecoming contest and Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge game on Oct. 12. Akron entertains Buffalo on Oct. 19 before hitting the road for two games– at Northern Illinois (Oct. 26) and at Bowling Green (Nov. 2).

For the final three games, Akron moves to the mid-week MAC nationally televised games. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Zips host Eastern Michigan on ESPN2 or ESPNU. On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Zips visit Miami (Ohio) for a game on ESPN2 or ESPNU. UA closes out the regular season with a Tuesday, Nov. 26, Senior Night contest against Ohio on ESPNU/ESPN3/ESPN+.

All home games will be played at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field.

An updated release of the MAC 2019 football schedule will be released in June with kickoff times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during November. All other game kickoff times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.

The 23rd Marathon MAC Football Championship game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 7. Â

The 2019 schedule will be challenging as seven opponents were bowl eligible last fall:Â UAB (Boca Raton), Troy (Dollar General), Buffalo (Dollar General), Northern Illinois (Boca Raton), Miami (not selected), Eastern Michigan (Camillia), and Ohio (Frisco).

Arth inherits a squad that finished 4-8 overall and 2-6 in MAC play in 2018.

Akron, which returns 51 letterwinners, begins spring drills on March 9. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 13, at Noon at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.

Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass– can be purchased now to lock in the 2018 pricing for the 2019 season, starting at only $60 each. Renewals (for current season ticket holders) and new seats are now available for purchase by calling or texting 888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
NCAA 150th CELEBRATION

The MAC and its 12 members will join NCAA and NAIA institutions in celebrating 150 years of college football during the 2019 season, and the MAC has created a specific celebration plan in collaboration with all 12 MAC football programs. The MAC's celebration program will also run in addition with the national 150th platform for all FBS programs.

MAC Football Media Day on Tuesday, July 23, will serve as the official start of the 2019 season. During the day's events, the Conference will roll out a MAC-branded 150th video and unveil plans to highlight each MAC football program during the 2019 season.

Each week during the 2019 season, the MAC will highlight one MAC football program with team recognitions, games, moments, coaches, student-athletes via MAC social media accounts and video content.

MAC programs will also participate in the National College Football 150 uniform patch program for the 2019 season. The patches will be one color (silver metallic), 3.5 x 1.7 inches and will be placed on the right, front chest of the jersey above the MAC logo.
