AKRON, Ohio – Akron rifle continues its record-setting season, setting a new range record yet again, shooting a 4697 en route to its fifth win of the season over North Georgia, 4697-4559.
Â
Akron also broke its record in the smallbore portion of the competition, shooting a 2338, breaking the previous record of 2324 which was set earlier this season in the Ole Miss match at Kentucky.
"This year's success is clearly the team functioning as a team. Every single one of them holding each other up and pushing each other to fight to the sweet end for each and every point.  They have started using this team mantra of "All gas, No brakes" an they seem to be living it. They all are simply putting their heads down and charging forward as hard as they can, and then a little harder said head coach Newt Engle".
Â
Leading the way for Akron was junior Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.) who shot a season-high 1184 (591 SB, 593 AR) and senior Kera Kaufman (Delmont, S.D.) who shot an 1173 (584 SB, 589 AR).Â
