Akron Volleyball Adds Three Zips to 2020 Roster

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron head volleyball coach Tom Hanna announced the addition of three student-athletes to the Zips' 2020 roster on Wednesday. Faith Johnson (Naperville, Ill.), Genevieve Hara (Imperial Beach, Calif.), and Anne Lesure (Carmel, Ind.) signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at Akron in the fall of 2020.

Johnson, an outside hitter from Naperville, Ill., comes to Akron with an array of accomplishments. She is a three-time All-Conference honoree and was named to the Daily Herald and Naperville Sun All-Area team in 2018. A captain her senior year, Johnson was named to the Under Armour All-American watch list. She was named First Team All-Area and First Team All-County, as well as receiving an honorable All-State mention. An excellent student, she was named to the Academic All-Conference from 2017-2019.

"Faith is a solid six rotation player who makes us better with her arm and ability to attack from either pin in addition to her ball control. I'm excited to have a player join us who can impact our level of play in a variety of ways. With her senior club season still to come at 1^stAlliance, I'm excited to see her continue to raise her of play over the next few months" said head coach Tom Hanna.

Hara, a pin hitter from Imperial Beach, Calif., currently plays for Storm VBC. She twice received First Team All-League honors as well as being named to the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team. Most recently completed her senior season at Mar Vista High School with 321 kills.

"Evie is a dynamic athlete who has the ability to attack from both pins for us. Her versatility, athleticism and tremendous upside that we feel she has in her game will make her an exciting addition to our team. She still has another season of club play with Storm in the competitive Southern California region where I'm confident she'll continue to develop before she arrives on campus."

A setter from Carmel, Ind., Lesure helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish at the AAU National Championship in 2018. She is a three-year team captain and was named to both All-County and All-Conference in 2018. She was most recently named to All-District and Academic All-State in 2019.

"Anne is a solid setter that we're excited to have join us next year. I'm confident in her ability to run our tempo and help our program continue to compete at the highest level during her time as a Zip. Her background at Carmel High School and Circle City have her well prepared to be a solid setter in the Mid-American Conference."

"I feel that with this class, we once again have improved our level of athleticism and overall volleyball ability. As always, we're bringing in solid students who are high character people into our Zips family. I have every confidence that this group will help us be a perennial force in the MAC during their careers at Akron."
