Emily Weigand Named MAC East Setter of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Akron volleyball's junior setter Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) has been selected by the Mid-American Conference as the MAC East Volleyball Setter of the Week, the league announced on Monday, Oct. 21.

Weigand's stellar ball-distribution helped propel the Zips to a 2-0 record on the weekend, as the Zips topped NIU in three sets before winning a five-set thriller against Western Michigan.

She continues to shine on the court, coming off another stellar weekend, finishing with 95 assists, 17 digs, 8 aces and 8 kills. Her ball distribution throughout the weekend propelled Akron to a .294 hitting percentage on the weekend. She also ranks first in the conference and top-20 in the nation in aces per set (.51).

The Zips will be back in action this weekend, as they head to Central Michigan in a battle for first place on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., before heading to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.
