Akron Rifle Set to Host Navy

AKRON, Ohio – Akron rifle hopes to continue its hot streak as it takes on Navy on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Robert A. Pinn shooting range on campus. Action is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.

The Zips, under the direction of head coach Newt Engle who's in his 42^ndyear, own a 2-0 record early in the season. They opened the season with an upset win over Ohio State and Nebraska, 4652-4651-4635. They followed that up with a victory over VMI and NC State, 4640-4625-4487.

Leading the way for Akron in smallbore are junior Wyatt Openshaw (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.), whose have both averaged 579 in that competition. Openshaw also holds the highest overall average in air rifle with 587. Very close behind are freshman Brendan Seitz (Milford, Ma.) and Gross who have averaged a 586.5, and senior Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) who's averaged 586.

Navy, led by third-year head coach Mike Anti, own a 2-1 record on the year. They opened up the season with a loss to defending champion TCU, followed up by two consecutive victories over VMI and No. 13 Memphis.

Up next, the Zips travel to Lexington, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 9, to compete in a two-day tournament hosted by Kentucky. Akron will take on Mississippi on Saturday, Nov. 9, and will follow that up with a match against Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 10.
