AKRON, Ohio– Four University of Akron women's tennis players will travel to the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Michigan State, on Oct. 17-22 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The tournament will be help indoors with consolation matches held outside on the MSU Outdoor Courts if weather allows.
Updated brackets will be posted throughout the duration of the tournament on MSUSpartans.com.
The winners of each main draw in singles and doubles will receive automatic berths into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
For Akron, under the guidance of interim head coach Brian Peters, senior Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal), junior Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany), and sophomore Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Guadalajara, Mexico) will compete in the singles qualifying round on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m.
Junior Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) will compete in the Main Draw singles, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m.
The Zips' doubles teams will begin play on Friday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m.
Midwest Region teams participating include Akron, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oakland, Ohio State, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, and Youngstown State.
