AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's swimming and diving team looks to continue its success as it travels to compete in the Shamrock Invitational. The meet, hosted by Notre Dame, will take place at Rolfs Aquatics Center in Notre Dame, Ind., Jan. 25-26.
The two-day meet begins on Friday, Jan. 25, with the first session beginning at 10 a.m. and the second session slated to start at 5 p.m. The invitational will wrap up on Saturday, Jan. 26, with the final session at 11 a.m. All events will be raced as timed finals. Admission is free to the public for all sessions.
Akron is the only team with just a women's team competing, while Missouri State will only have a men's team represented. Notre Dame, Iowa and Ohio State will have both men's and women's teams competing.
This will be the second consecutive year that Akron will be competing at the Shamrock Invitational. A season ago, Akron came in second with 842 points, while Notre Dame recorded 1,023.5 points to take first place and Ohio State took third with 735.5 points. Notre Dame also took first on the men's side of competition, while Ohio State and Iowa took second and third, respectively.
The Zips have come in first in all three invitationals they have competed in so far this season. Additionally, Akron has won four out of its five duals, with its only loss being against Ohio State (174.5-124.5). The Zips rank among the top 35 in the nation in all five relays.
