AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips men's golf team traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Bearcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 24-25 hosted by Cincinnati at Coldstream Country Club.
"Cincinnati and the staff and membership of Coldstream put on a fantastic event every year, and it is an event we love playing in," Zips' head coach David Trainor said. "The field is strong, the course is great, and I look forward to seeing how we have improved. We have put in good work over the past two weeks, and it is time to go."
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-71 Coldstream Country Club. The 7,150-yard course is one of Cincinnati's premier private clubs situated on 190 idyllic acres, featuring an elite, championship 18‐hole golf course. It has served as the backdrop to numerous Ohio amateur and open championships as well as USGA qualifiers.
The 12-team field includes host Cincinnati, Akron, Arkansas, Kentucky, McNeese State, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Each team will play with six players with four scores counting toward the team total. Akron's lineup includes senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio), sophomore Fabian Sunden (Sweden), redshirt freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) and Kaleb Smith (Mansfield, Ohio), and freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain).
The 54-hole event spans two days as Monday features 36 holes of continuous play, starting with a first round shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for tee times, beginning at 8:45 a.m.
