AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team registered 17 first-place performances as part of 66 overall top-five finishes to highlight the Zips' efforts on the final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad on Saturday, April 7, at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex and Stile Athletics Field House.
The Zips' men's squad posted dual-meet victories over Youngstown State (113-75), Kent State (115-58) and Ashland (103-75), while the women's team bested the Penguins (95-91), Golden Flashes (102-80) and Eagles (114-60).
Redshirt freshman Marc Migliozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the men's 3,000 meters registering a career-best time of 8:54.89, while redshirt sophomore Tevin Brown (Toledo, Ohio) claimed the men's 5,000 meters crossing the line in 15:31.33.
Junior Rodrigo Iglesias (Logrono, Spain) won the men's javelin with a throw of 213-10 (65.19), while redshirt junior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) soared 24-3 (7.39m) to earn the victory in the men's long jump.
Junior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) captured the men's pole vault surpassing 18-1.25 (5.53m).
Junior Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) bested the field in the men's high jump eclipsing 6-8.75 (2.05m), while sophomore Marcques Gibbs (Darby, Pa.) won the men's triple jump with a mark of 47-10 (14.58m).
Additionally, senior Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio) finished first in the men's 300 meters crossing the line in 33.95.
Earning the victory in the women's pole vault was freshman Jenna Frantz (Versailles, Ohio), who registered a jump of 13-8.50 (4.18m). She claimed the triumph by virtue of jumps over juniors Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) and Eboni Hall (Pickerington, Ohio).
Junior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) crossed the line in 13.47 to finish first in the women's 100-meter hurdles, while senior Patricia Ortega (Logrono, Spain) placed second registering the third-fastest time in outdoor program history with a time of 13.60.
Freshman Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) posted a time of 4:45.97 to triumph in the women's 1,500 meters.
Recording career-best times of 10:17.41 and 17:44.03, respectively, to finish first in the women's 3,000 and 5,000 meters was sophomore Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio) and redshirt junior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio).
Sophomore Dimitra Gnafaki (Chania, Greece) and senior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) finished in a tie for first in the women's 300-meter hurdles as each crossed the line in 43.36 (43.358).
Rounding out the victories for the Zips was Ortega in the women's high jump (5-6/1.68m) and senior Daziah Green (Canton, Ohio) in the women's 150 meters (17.89).
The women's 4x400 relay team earned the triumph with a time of 3:49.90.
Akron also garnered second-place performances from Green in the 100 meters (11.80) and 300 meters (39.49), redshirt freshman Vanessa Rivera (Seville, Ohio) in the 3,000 meters (10:20.86) and freshman Kayla Barreca (Warren, Ohio) in the discus (149-6/45.57m).
Garnering second place efforts in the men's 1,500 meters (3:58.83), 300 meters (34.41), 800 meters (1:56.21), 150 meters (16.01), javelin (201-11/61.65m), pole vault (16-2/4.93m), respectively, was senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) and Jamir Coleman (Lima, Ohio), freshman Steven Ashcraft (Canton, Ohio), Slone and redshirt sophomores Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) and Cole Wigal (Belpre, Ohio).
Akron returns to competition traveling to California to partake in the Mt. Sac Relays, April 19-21.
