Kannapolis, N.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team carded rounds of 296 (+12) and 310 (+26) en route to a 12th place showing at the 2018 Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate on Saturday.

Akron enters Sunday's final round with a 606 (+38) ledger at the par-71 The Club at Irish Creek course that spans 7,099 yards. The Zips are sitting five strokes back from 11th ranked Charlotte and 10 strokes behind a ninth-place tie between Indiana and Middle Tennessee State.

Akron junior Jacob Morgan (Lafayette, Ga.) is competing as an individual and landed inside the Top 15 after 36 holes of play. Morgan opened the event with a 75 (+4) score and carded a team-low 69 (-2) second round for a 144 (+2) tournament total. He currently ranks tied for 14th overall.

Morgan buried 11 pars and five birdies mixed with a bogey and a double bogey during the final round of the day. He started with nine pars, five bogeys, three birdies, and a double. Morgan's eight birdies ranks third among the field.

Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) led Akron's team scoring with a 145 (+3) that pushed him into a tie for 17th overall. He finished the first 18-hole round of the day with a 1-under par 70 total, recording 15 pars and two birdies with one bogey. During the second round, Baylis fired 14 pars and four bogeys. Baylis leads the field with 29 par scores.

Junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron with a 36-hole total of 150 (+8), while junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) finished third for the Zips with a 152 (+10).

Sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio), and freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) rounded out the team scoring with 159 (+17) and 171 (+29), respectively.
